ENERGY STAR HOMES We are very aware that your h ouse is one of the biggest investments you will have in your lifetime. Building your dream home can be somewhat stressful at times by having to make so many decisions. One of our promises to you is that we will do our very best to make this transformation as easy and as stress free as possible for you. One decision that should be very easy for you to make when building your home, is to go the extra step and make it an Energy Star Home.
Custom Kreations, Inc. offers you the most safe, comfortable, durable, and energy efficient home you can get. We build our houses to the Energy Star specifications. Our homes are on average 25% more efficient than those homes built to the WI Uniform Dwelling Code. In fact, our homes exceed the Environmental Protection Agency's standards for new home construction. Every Energy Star home that we build, goes through a series of performance tests and must meet specific program standards before being certified. This way, the process results in better building, largely due to paying greater attention to construction details. To get a home certified, it must go through a 3 phase inspection during the building process. The inspector's look at different areas of the home:
- Air flow
- Heat flow
- Moisture flow
- Air quality
Inspection #1: The first inspection is after the rough framing is complete, but before the insulation is installed. At this point the heating, plumbing, electrical, and duct systems are roughed in. The inspectors look for any spaces or holes that shouldn't be there.
Inspection #2: The second inspection is after the insulation is installed, but prior to the drywall. The insulation must meet the requirements of the R-value. The inspectors look for any gaps, voids, or misalignments with the air barrier. They also inspect the vapor barrier.
Inspections #3: The third and last inspection is when the home is complete. They assess the tightness of the building by performing a "Blower Door Test". All ventilation equipment will be tested to verify compliance with the standards, along with a "Depressurization Test" and HVAC "Zone Pressure Test". Not only the frame of the house and the mechanicals are looked at to be Energy Efficient, but also the lighting and appliances. It is a smart decision to make. Your quality of life will improve and your cost of living will decrease. There is also a good chance that the value of your home will increase once it has this label.
Once the home has been certified, the homeowner will receive a manual that will help you maintain and control your home and it's systems for optimal performance. You will receive a Certification Report that gives the results of the different tests that were performed when the home was completed. You will also receive a plaque that can be displayed on the electrical box to remind any contractors and/or prospective buyers that the home is certified a "WI Energy Star Home".
